Warisara Klinjui
Warisara Klinjui was 22 and worked in Khon Kaen. She was killed in May 2017. Her remains were found in Khao Suan Kwang district on May 25, prompting an investigation that quickly focused on a group of people who knew her.
Police accounts reported at the time linked the conflict to information Warisara had allegedly provided about drug activity connected to someone close to one of the suspects. That proposed motive came from the investigation and reporting; it should not be treated as a reason to reduce Warisara to her connection with the defendants.
The investigation
Police arrested Wasin Namprom in Thailand and later took custody of Preeyanuch Nonwangchai, Kawita Ratchada and Apiwan Sattayabundit after they were detained near the Myanmar border. Jidarat Phromkhun was separately accused in relation to property taken from Warisara.
The suspects gave differing accounts of individual responsibility. Preeyanuch acknowledged during the trial that she had caused Warisara's death but disputed the prosecution's claim of premeditation. The court ultimately assessed the evidence rather than simply adopting any one defendant's account.
The 2018 judgment
In May 2018, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court convicted Preeyanuch, Kawita and Apiwan in connection with Warisara's killing. The court did not find the killing to be premeditated murder in the form originally alleged; contemporary reporting described the murder conviction as second-degree or non-premeditated murder under the applicable Thai framework.
Preeyanuch and Kawita initially received life terms that were reduced because of confessions and cooperation, leaving prison terms of roughly 34 years. Apiwan received a similarly lengthy term. Wasin was convicted for his role and received a substantial prison sentence, while Jidarat's liability was limited to receiving stolen property.
The 2019 appeal
On September 30, 2019, Thailand's Appeal Court upheld the principal murder convictions and the lengthy sentences imposed on Preeyanuch, Kawita and Apiwan. The appellate court also increased Wasin's liability, finding him guilty of murder rather than merely being an accessory.
The appeal judgment is important because it confirms that responsibility was not based only on early police statements or media claims. Multiple defendants had their criminal liability reviewed by an appellate court.
Separating fact from sensationalism
Thai and international media coverage frequently used lurid nicknames for the women involved and emphasized graphic details of the concealment of Warisara's body. Those labels add no factual value and are omitted here.
The established core is narrower and stronger: Warisara was killed; several defendants were convicted; the Appeal Court upheld the central murder findings in 2019 and adjusted Wasin's conviction upward. Claims about drug networks or revenge motives are described only where they were part of the police or court narrative, not as independent proven facts beyond the judgments.
