The Murder of Louise Borglit

The 2016 murder

Louise Borglit was killed while walking a dog in Elverparken in Herlev on 4 November 2016. She was 32 and pregnant. The investigation continued for years without a prosecution, and police repeatedly returned to the park and earlier leads while seeking evidence.

In May 2022, Copenhagen West Police arrested a 28-year-old man already serving a sentence for other serious violence. Police stressed at the time that an arrest and charge were not proof of guilt and that further investigation would continue before prosecutors decided whether to proceed.

The undercover operation and Supreme Court ruling

Years earlier, while the man was serving another prison sentence, police and prosecutors had placed an undercover officer using the name “Frank” in the same prison environment. Conversations were recorded through covert methods. The defense later argued that the material should be excluded and that using it would violate Danish procedural rules and rights under the European Convention on Human Rights.

On 14 May 2024, Denmark's Supreme Court ruled that the relevant recordings and the undercover officer's testimony could be admitted. The Court concluded that the operation had sufficient legal safeguards and that the use of the evidence would not, in the circumstances examined, violate the right to a fair trial.

Trial and appeal

In June 2024, the District Court in Glostrup found Alexander Toro Møllmann guilty of Louise Borglit's murder and imposed preventive detention, an indeterminate measure used in Danish law. He denied guilt and appealed.

On 18 November 2025, the Eastern High Court again found him guilty. The appellate court changed the sanction and imposed life imprisonment, treating the sentence together with his earlier serious violent offending. Reporting from the hearing described the prosecution as viewing life imprisonment as a harsher result than the district court's preventive-detention order.

Current verified status

As of this review on 26 August 2026, the latest reliable merits judgment located is the Eastern High Court's life sentence of 18 November 2025. No later decision overturning that conviction was found in the sources reviewed for this page. Crime by Region therefore lists the case as Solved / Adjudicated while avoiding claims about any procedural step that has not been documented.

A life sentence in Denmark does not mean automatic release after a fixed number of years. Eligibility to seek release is legally distinct from a decision to grant release.
