The Murders of Hiren and Vidhi Adhiya in Arabian Ranches

The family and the break-in

Hiren and Vidhi Adhiya lived with their two daughters in the Mirador community of Arabian Ranches, Dubai. Prosecutors later established that the man who entered their home had previously worked there as part of a maintenance team and had seen money inside the villa.

On June 17, 2020, he returned to the area intending to steal cash and valuables. Court reporting states that he waited outside for hours before entering through an unlocked patio door after the family had gone to bed. He took cash downstairs and then went upstairs looking for more.

The murders and the surviving daughter

Hiren awoke while the intruder was searching a bedside drawer. The assailant attacked Hiren and then Vidhi, killing both. This archive does not reproduce the detailed wound counts reported in court because they are unnecessary to establish the crime or legal outcome.

As the attacker left the bedroom, the couple's elder daughter, then 18, encountered him and was wounded in the neck. She survived and, together with her younger sister, was able to alert police and a family friend. Their actions provided investigators with an immediate account of the intruder and the attack.

The investigation and arrest

Dubai Police recovered significant physical evidence. A bloody handprint was found inside the home, and DNA from a mask left on the bed was linked to the accused. Investigators also recovered the knife used in the attack about 500 metres from the villa.

The suspect was arrested in Sharjah the following day. According to the evidence summarized in court reporting, he admitted during questioning to the planned burglary, the killings, the attack on the daughter and the theft. The prosecution later relied not only on those admissions but also on forensic and scene evidence.

The 2022 conviction

On April 20, 2022, Dubai Criminal Court convicted the defendant of the premeditated murders of Hiren and Vidhi Adhiya, the attempted murder of their daughter and theft. The court imposed the death penalty.

The defense challenged the finding of criminal intent. On November 9, 2022, the Dubai Court of Appeal rejected that argument and upheld the conviction and sentence, stating that criminal intent was established by the evidence and the defendant's confession. At that stage, however, the death sentence was not yet the final judicial result because the case still required review by the Court of Cassation.

The final Court of Cassation judgment

On June 15, 2023, Dubai's Court of Cassation, the emirate's highest court, rejected the final appeal and upheld the death sentence. That decision exhausted the ordinary judicial appeals described in the reviewed reporting.

The Court of Cassation judgment also explained that carrying out the sentence requires approval by the Ruler of Dubai under the applicable criminal procedure. This distinction is important: the judicial sentence is final, but this dossier does not claim that an execution has occurred or that every later administrative step has been completed without reliable evidence saying so.

Why the case is classified as solved

The legal responsibility for the murders is not presented as an unresolved allegation. The accused was convicted at trial, lost his appeal, and then lost his final judicial challenge before the Court of Cassation. Physical evidence, the rapid arrest and the statements attributed to him were all examined within that process.

The case is therefore classified Solved / Adjudicated. The fact that the convicted man's full name was not published in the reliable court reports reviewed here does not justify supplying one from rumor, social media or inference.
