True crime cases from Mauritania
This source-led archive begins with the killing of four French tourists near Aleg on 24 December 2007. It follows the court record through the 2010 convictions and the 2014 appellate ruling, while making the defendants' reported torture allegations and disputed confessions visible rather than treating a verdict as the whole story.
Symbolic country artwork inspired by Mauritania's flag and Saharan landscape. It does not depict a crime scene.
One adjudicated multiple-murder case
The Mauritania hub currently contains one substantive case file. It is classified as solved / adjudicated because three defendants were convicted in 2010 and the sentences of the two surviving appellants were confirmed in 2014. The label records the legal outcome; it is not an endorsement of disputed confessions or a claim that procedural concerns were resolved.
Mauritania is the sovereign northwest African state whose capital is Nouakchott. It is not Mauritius, the Indian Ocean island state. The country route, search terms and map location are separated so these jurisdictions cannot be confused.
Cases with supported court outcomes
Verdicts, appellate rulings and procedural concerns are stated separately so a legal outcome is not simplified into certainty about every contested fact.
Cases without an adjudicated perpetrator
Future files will appear here only when their unresolved status and source base can be verified.
How this archive treats the record
Verdicts control classification
Three defendants were convicted; the two surviving defendants' sentences were later confirmed on appeal.
Allegations remain attributed
The defendants' torture claims are reported as allegations documented by Amnesty International, not presented as judicial findings.
Later status is bounded
The file does not claim the death sentences were carried out because the reviewed case-specific sources do not establish that outcome.
Victims remain central
The four people killed are named, and graphic descriptions are excluded.
