The Disappearance of Trevor Deely

Trevor Deely was 22 and working in information technology in Dublin when he disappeared in the early hours of December 8, 2000. He had attended a work Christmas party and later returned briefly to his office before setting out on foot toward his home.

The last confirmed movements

Gardaí state that Trevor returned to the Bank of Ireland Asset Management offices to collect an umbrella. CCTV showed him at the building and later captured him passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road at approximately 4:14 a.m. That is the last confirmed sighting released by investigators.

An unidentified man was recorded outside Trevor's workplace earlier that morning. Garda appeals have sought information about that man and about anyone who may have seen Trevor after he left the office.

The investigation

The disappearance triggered extensive searches, witness inquiries and repeated public appeals. Investigators examined waterways, CCTV, phone information and multiple theories. A major search in the Chapelizod area in 2017 did not recover Trevor or evidence that resolved the case.

Some public theories have suggested accidental death, criminal involvement or homicide. None has produced a court finding or a confirmed account of what happened. In particular, people visible in CCTV should not be treated as perpetrators merely because investigators sought to identify or interview them.
