What happened
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, a series of boys were abducted and killed around Cape Town in crimes that became associated with the name “Station Strangler.”
The investigation
Police investigated repeated disappearances near railway stations and other transit points. Norman Afzal Simons, a schoolteacher, was arrested after the 1994 killing of a child and became the principal suspect in the wider series.

Simons was convicted of one murder and kidnapping. He was not convicted for the full series attributed to the Station Strangler, leaving parts of the historical case unresolved.
