Ori Ansbacher
Ori Ansbacher was a 19-year-old from Tekoa who was volunteering at a youth center in Jerusalem. On February 7, 2019, she went for a walk in the wooded Ein Yael area on the city's southern edge. Her body was found later that day.
Investigators from the Israel Police and Shin Bet focused on Arafat Irfaiya, a resident of the Hebron area. He was arrested in Ramallah the following day. Early court reporting described forensic evidence linking him to the crime scene and the weapon, alongside statements he made during interrogation.
Investigation and indictment
Irfaiya was charged with rape and murder in the context of a terrorist act. The indictment alleged that he had entered Israel illegally while carrying a knife and encountered Ansbacher by chance in the wooded area.
The motive question drew unusual scrutiny before trial. Shin Bet publicly described the killing as nationally motivated, while later reporting said prosecutors had questioned how that admission emerged during interrogation. The eventual criminal case nevertheless included the terror-motive component, and Irfaiya ultimately admitted the charged crimes in court. Guilty plea
