Orhan Aksoy, the "Parcel Killer"

Orhan Aksoy, known in the Turkish press as the "Parcel Killer," strangled five people around Istanbul between 2000 and 2001. He disposed of the victims' bodies by placing them in boxes, which he left in open fields or near construction sites.

Arrest and trial

Aksoy was apprehended in January 2001. At trial, he recanted his earlier confessions, claiming he was not physically capable of lifting the boxes containing the bodies and suggesting he had confessed after being influenced by crime films and television dramas he had watched.

Conduct in court

His unusual behavior during proceedings, including an incident in which he threw an object at the presiding judge, led to questions being raised about his mental state during the trial.

Sentence

In June 2004, Aksoy was convicted on all counts and sentenced to five life terms, along with two years of solitary confinement.
