Crime by Region · Case FileThe Blue Diamond Affair

The Blue Diamond Affair began when a Thai worker stole jewelry from the palace of a Saudi prince and sent it to Thailand. Much of the collection, including a rare blue diamond, was never conclusively recovered.

Investigation

The inquiry became entangled with allegations that returned jewels were fake, corruption among officials, and the murders or disappearances of people connected to the case. The disappearance of a Saudi businessman in Bangkok and the killing of Saudi diplomats deepened the diplomatic crisis.

Legal status and legacy

Some individuals faced proceedings for parts of the scandal, but the location of the blue diamond and responsibility for several connected crimes remain unresolved. The broader affair is therefore listed as unsolved.
