The Bucharest Metro Murder of Alina Ciucu

On December 12, 2017, two young women were attacked at separate Bucharest metro stations within the same day. The first, Alexandra Costache, resisted and escaped an attempt to push her toward the tracks at Costin Georgian. Later, at Dristor 1, 25-year-old Alina Ciucu was pushed onto the tracks and killed by an arriving train. The earlier attack at Costin Georgian

Several hours before Ciucu's death, prosecutors said Șerban approached another young woman, Alexandra Costache, at Costin Georgian station and tried to push her toward the metro tracks. Costache resisted and was not injured.

The defendant underwent psychiatric and psychological assessments. Romanian reporting on the case said experts concluded that she had discernment at the time of the acts and could be held criminally responsible.

Final judgment in 2019

On March 12, 2019, the Bucharest Court of Appeal maintained the life sentence. AGERPRES described the decision as final and reported that the court left the October 2018 conviction in place, including moral damages of 60,000 euros.
